Lewis Leathers Vintage Gauntlets and Mittens, Circa 1950-1960

Two beautiful, collectible, coveted pairs of Lewis gauntlets. Waxed cotton rain covers and lamb lining, in a Belstaff style.  Vintage ’50s-’60s, but still in pretty great shape.

Lewis Leathers was established in 1892, and are Britain’s oldest manufacturer of motorcycle clothing, favoured by a long list of celebrities, musicians, and cultural icons throughout the years.

As Wikipedia says; “The company supplied early aviators, motorists and motorcyclists with protective clothing against the cold and damp British climate. In the mid-1950s, D. Lewis produced the Bronx leather jacket, one of the first products aimed directly at the post-war teenage fashion market, which was widely adopted by the Ton-up Boys and Rockers of the 1960s, becoming associated with the 59 Club and sponsoring leading motorcycle and TT racers of the day.”

It’s a super interesting company with an equally interesting history – if you’d like to learn a little more about it, give these a read:
